CEO of Teach for India and founder of Akanksha, Shaheen Mistri spent her childhood outside India but came back for summer holidays. On one such visit, she decided to stay back instead of returning to pursue her undergraduate degree at Tufts. That decision not only changed her life but has changed the life of thousands of underprivileged kids in India.
Philantropy is probably in Shaheen’s DNA. Her Parsi community is known for their charitable work and as a child, Shaheen was always volunteering either with autistic kids, visually impaired childred, orphans or taking care of different animals. This is when she discovered her innate love for children. Akanksha and Teach for India was a natral progression for her.
Shaheen talks about embarked on the Akanksha journey, the early struggles, some heart warming stories, lessons she has learnt and how she ended up starting Teach for India.
She serves on several boards, was named a global leader for tomorrow at the World Economic Forum, and is the recipient of many awards.
